Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has revealed inmates brought to prisons decreased in March compared to February 2020.
The statistics published by MCS revealed 60 people were brought to prisons as inmates, which includes 35 individuals who were sentenced and 25 with pending trials. In February 2020, 68 people were taken to prisons, of which 52 inmates were sentenced while the remaining had pending trials.
In March 2020, the most number of inmates were sentenced for drug cases. In this regard, 37.1% of the inmates were sentenced for drug-related cases. Moreover, 8.6% of the inmates were sentenced for molesting children, 5.7% were sentenced for terrorism and 2.9% were sentenced for different cases of corruption.
