Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has stated important changes are being brought to Maldives Police Service (MPS) in order to adapt to the changing environment of crimes in the country.
Speaking on the occasion of the 87th anniversary of the establishment of police service in Maldives, Home Minister Imran stated crimes in Maldives are evolving, adding MPS must adapt to the changes in order to overcome the new challenges. He said important changes are being brought to the police service, noting the Commissioner of Police and the leadership of MPS are in efforts to implement the Police Strategic Action Plan.
The home minister acknowledged the tireless efforts of Maldivian police to ensure the safety of Maldivian citizens, despite the overwhelming challenges they come across on a daily basis. Noting the police officers cannot undertake their responsibilities without the support and assistance of their families, the minister thanked all police officers and their families for their contribution to the safety and security of the nation.
Furthermore, Minister Imran noted police officers are active at the frontline of the efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Maldives. He stated the government fully appreciates the value of service provided by MPS during this difficult time for the country.
Police service was established in Maldives on March 29, 1933.
