Petition submitted to the parliament by 389 concerned law graduates

A petition has been submitted to the Parliament of Maldives by 389 law graduates, listing their concerns on the difficulties faced in their field.

The Majority Leader of the Parliament Ali Azim stated the matter is of grave concern as such a large number of law graduates had raised the issue of the lack the opportunity to further move forward in the field. Azim revealed the petition has now been forwarded to the petition committee of the parliament. He additionally noted a meeting would be conducted by the petition committee today in order to discuss what needs to be done to resolve the issues listed in the petition.

The petition states Bar Council of Maldives is not fulfilling its legal responsibilities which have been causing difficulties for law graduates to move forward in their careers. In this regard, the petition noted the delays in conducting the bar exam which must be completed before taking the oath and other legal responsibilities that the bar council has failed to attend.

Azim also noted several complaints have been raised by the bar council regarding the difficulties faced in carrying out their legal responsibilities. As such, he noted the council has complained of not having sufficient workspaces.

However, Azim stated the parliament finalised a budget for the bar council which was released to the council by Ministry of Finance. He revealed decisions regarding the petition by law graduates would be made during the petition committee meeting.
