Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has announced re-registration to vote in the local council election and women’s development committee election is now open.
ECM says voters would need to re-register only if they plan to vote in a different location from where they voted during the parliamentary elections last year. However, ECM stated voters who were registered in resorts, jails or industrial locations during the parliamentary election would be automatically registered to vote in their permanent residencies in the upcoming elections.
ECM announced re-registration will be open until February 27. The commission says re-registration forms will be available through island councils, ward offices of city councils in Addu and Fuvahmulah as well as the main electoral headquarters located in the old Jamaluddeen School building in Male’.
269,562 people are eligible to vote in the local council elections set to be held on April 4.
