CSC revised policies to offer jobs to targeted individuals: Committee Report

A report compiled by the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions has revealed Civil Services Commission (CSC) revised its policies to offer job opportunities to targeted individuals.

The independent institutions committee had requested CSC members to be present at the committee for the investigation of complaints against CSC. However, Chair of the commission Dr. Ali Shameem was the only member present.

During the meeting, President of CSC Dr. Shameem briefed the committee on all activities of CSC during the past five years. Shameem said he had requested meetings with former Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Maseeh and the Former Chair of Committee on Independent Institutions, adding there were no responses. He also said he met with the then Prosecutor General (PG) and discussed affairs of CSC.

The probe into CSC by the committee found that 90 civil service staff were dismissed without due notices. Additionally, the report concluded that CSC brought various revisions to the minimum qualifications of permanent secretaries to ministries in order to accommodate certain individuals.

The committee is also investigating the appointment of Vice President of CSC Shaheed Mohamed, as he is observed to have been elected to the post although he does not meet the criteria and qualification requirements for the job. Additionally, it is also investigating discrepancies and illegal acts of CSC members.
