President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated Maldives deeply cherishes the warm and long-standing ties of friendship that exist with United Arab Emirates (UAE). The president made the remarks in a letter sent to Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on the occasion of National Day of UAE.
In his letter, President Solih said the resilience of the alliance between both countries has grown decade after decade, adding his administration remains firmly committed to further enhance relations in the years ahead.
In another letter sent to President of UAE Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President Solih said Maldives and the UAE have enjoyed over four decades of strong bilateral relationship that has withstood the test of time. The president said the two countries are bound by historic ties of friendship and close cooperation founded on reciprocal respect, shared principles and deepening people-to-people ties. He further emphasised his most profound gratitude for the generous assistance the UAE continues to make towards the socio-economic development of Maldives and expressed confidence the strong bonds of friendship continue to prosper in the years ahead for mutual benefit.
In another letter sent to the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President Solih assured the desire to work closely with UAE to further reinvigorate and deepen the long-standing bilateral relationship between the two countries in the years ahead.
Maldives and UAE established diplomatic ties on 15 March 1978.
