Parliament extends current term until December 7

The Parliament of Maldives has approved the motion to extend its current term until December 7.

The motion was approved with votes from 61 members present at the sitting today. The extension comes just a week after the parliament had extended its current term until December 5, citing impending work such as the finalization of State Budget 2020 and the amendments proposed to the Decentralization Act.

The parliament conducts its sittings across three terms annually, according to parliament regulations. The first term is conducted from February to April, the second term from June to August and the third term from October to November. Three months of vacation are allocated to parliament members every year.
