Anti-Human Trafficking Steering Committee holds its inaugural meeting

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has reconstituted the National Anti-Human Trafficking Steering Committee, with its inaugural meeting held today.

The committee is composed of 14 members including Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi, who chairs the committee. The committee is tasked with ensuring authorities are taking the appropriate measures obliged to them under the Anti-Human Trafficking Act.

The Anti-Human Trafficking Act was ratified in 2013, imposing strict measures imposed on individuals found guilty of human trafficking. The Act also aims to provide a support mechanism for victims of human trafficking.

National Anti-Human Trafficking Steering Committee was first formed in 2014.
