Maldives shares the anguish of millions of Palestinians: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated Maldives shares the anguish of millions of Palestinians, who have suffered at the hands of injustice, inhumanity and oppression for several decades.

In his message on the occasion of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, President Solih reiterated the commitment of Maldives to the long-standing ties with the State of Palestine and its people. He said Maldivians recognise the restoration of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people as a matter of pressing urgency, and called upon the need for a comprehensive two-state solution derived from negotiations.

President Solih said the efforts towards peace should be in complete alignment with the resolutions and laws adopted under the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and other international organisations. He said Maldives remains deeply concerned by the delay in delivering to the Palestinians their right to self-determination.

The president added the Government of Maldives believes tangible progress in the Middle-East peace process is synonymous with the establishment of an independent State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital based on the pre-1967 borders. He said Maldives will always remain steadfast in its support for Palestine and its people in their struggle for dignity, justice and peace.
