Ministry of Education has contracted Al Shaali Marine Maldives Private Limited to build a ferry boat to facilitate students from Fehendhoo to attend the school in Goidhoo.
The contract was signed by Finance Executive of Education Ministry Naushad Ibrahim and Operation Manager of Al Shaali Marine Maldives Ismail Shareef. The estimated cost of the project funded by the Government of India is USD 157,000. The ferry should be built within 100 days.
The two neighbouring islands of Goidhoo and Fehendhoo in Baa Atoll are situated in the same lagoon. Students from Fehendhoo had been attending the school in the island for years before the school in Fehendhoo was finally closed down last year. Students from Fehendhoo are transported across the lagoon in a small dinghy.
The State Budget 2020 allocated more than USD 13,000 to build a causeway between Fehendhoo and Goidhoo to solve the issue.
