Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said the aim of Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) must be carrying out regular reform activities.
Speaking at the function held to inaugurate the registration of MRM as a political party in Maldives, Maumoon said reform activities must be embraced as a constant activity. He also assured positive changes in the administration of political parties in Maldives, including gender equality and youth involvement. He further said freedom of expression is key to democracy and freedom of expression must be observed and allowed in the society.
The former president also urged political parties to refrain from targeted attacks such as character assassination as the outcome may not be positive. He also remarked the importance of establishing peace and education for social harmony and development.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also participated the function held to inaugurate MRM. Maumoon said the decision of President Solih to participate the inauguration is evidence to his backing for the coalition established before presidential election and his support for democracy in Maldives.
