President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has congratulated the candidates elected to the leadership of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
In a tweet to congratulate the newly elected party leadership, President Solih particularly congratulated Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed for being elected as the president of the party. He also congratulated Minister at President's Office Mohamed Shifaz for being elected as the vice president of the party.
Speaking to journalists after casting his ballot on Friday, the president remarked the new government led by MDP has solved many complicated issues created by the previous administration. He also said next year will see more development projects launched across the country.
MDP said that a total of 87,439 people registered to vote in the party elections. Nasheed was elected to lead the main ruling party by 23,584 votes.
