Local religious non-government organisation, Jamiyyath Salaf has denied allegations of any involvement in the murder of religious scholar and former Parliamentarian Dr. Afrasheem Ali.
Speaking at a press conference, scholars from Salaf said the investigative report publicised by the Presidential Commission on Deaths and Disappearances (DDCom) revealed there was no involvement of the organisation in the case.
Denying serious allegations, Salaf said the only mention of its activity in the report is a fact-based academic response it tendered to Afrasheem while the report has no mention its association with the murderers or the accomplices. Salaf said evidence based academic response does not constitute to supporting violence, extremism and murder.
The report compiled by DDCom included the statement released by Jamiyyath Salaf calling the public to stop praying with him.
The Parliamentary Committee on National Security Services has decided to take action against Jamiyyath Salaf accusing the organisation of supporting extremism and terrorism. After the decision, some parliamentarians also called to ban the organisation.
