Access to justice key to reaping benefits of the legal system: Chief Justice

Chief Justice Ahmed Abdulla Didi has said easy access to justice is essential for the public to benefit from the legal system.

Speaking to inaugurate the Judicial Symposium on Family Justice, Chief Justice Didi highlighted easy access to justice is also a measure to ensure the effectiveness of the legal system. Didi further said easy access to information, an easier application process, and quicker process of trials it is of utmost importance to ensure rule of law is upheld.

The chief justice also highlighted the symposium would focus on the much necessary amendments to reinforce the practice of Family Law in the Maldives. He also iterated the need to protect and service justice to victims of domestic violence, and abuse of women and children in the Maldives to ensure justice is well served.

This is the first time the stakeholders have come together to a common arena for an academic and evidence-based discussion on issues in practicing family law. The symposium that runs for three days has been organised by Judicial Academy in collaboration with Family Court and UNICEF Maldives.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the symposium, Judicial Administrator Dr. Abdulla Nazeer explained international experts would take sessions. The experts include the Chief Justice of Bangladesh and two judges from Turkey and Pakistan.
