Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal Pradeep Kumar Gyawali has met Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Abdulla Shahid.
At the meeting held on the sidelines of the 4th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC), Minister Shahid welcomed his Nepalese counterpart to Maldives and the IOC. Both ministers acknowledged the commonalities between Maldives and Nepal, despite the geographical distance and difference in altitude. The ministers also expressed concern on the adverse effects on their countries due to climate change.
Minister Shahid also conveyed sincere appreciation to the Government of Nepal, for the valuable contribution to the health sector in the Maldives, especially by offering scholarships and also seats for Maldivian medical students in Nepal. He was pleased to accept an invitation extended by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, to attend the Sustainable Summits Conference, to be hosted by Nepal in 2020.
Minister Shahid was accompanied at the meeting by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel and Foreign Secretary Abdul Gafoor Mohamed.
