Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has inaugurated a seminar held by Joint Credit Mechanism (JCM) and Ministry of Environment.
Speaking after inaugurating the seminar, the environment minister noted the consequences faced by Maldives due to climate change. He expressed a joint effort is needed from the international community to minimise the damages caused by climate change.
The Seminar on the Joint Crediting Mechanism Implementation in Maldives is aimed at sharing the progress of JCM and to present the achievements of the renewable energy projects conducted in Maldives. 50 participants from Maldives and Japan are attended the one-day seminar, which was held in 8 sessions.
Recognising the necessity to achieve low-carbon growth all around the world to effectively address climate change mitigation issue by mobilising technology, market, and finance adequately, the government of Japan has proposed the JCM as a means to facilitate the diffusion of leading low-carbon technologies, systems in developing countries.
