Adeeb transferred to house arrest

Maldives Correctional Service has transferred former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb to house arrest.

Speaking with PSM News, Media Officer at Maldives Correctional Service Ahmed Luqman said Adeeb was transferred to house arrest on Tuesday night, under specific conditions. However, he did not disclose details about the conditions.

Earlier, the former vice president was taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and received medical care, following health complications. However, authorities have not yet disclosed what kind of medical complication Adeeb has been receiving treatment.

Adeeb has been sentenced to serve, a collective, 33 years in jail, after being convicted for the explosion on the presidential speedboat during the previous administration, and for some cases that have been tried at court with regard to the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal. He has served over three years of the sentences.
