Immigration takes action against companies alleging falsifying and corruption

Maldives Immigration has taken action against 27 companies alleging falsifying and corruption in the procedure of bringing expatriates to Maldives.

Maldives Immigration revealed 67 parties are under investigation due to illegally performing the procedure of bringing expatriates, negligence towards expatriates registered under the parties among other cases. Individuals and companies are under investigation, while so far action has been taken against 27 companies out of the 67, according to Immigration.

Noting several illegal actions were identified in the procedure of attaining quota, Immigration revealed some cases included cases of fabricating information, submitting false documents and issuing quota more than the required amount to conduct a project. Maldives Immigration said a broad investigation is currently underway with relevant authorities.

Furthermore, Immigration revealed the authority is currently trying to collect evidence which may verify the allegations to forward the cases to Persecutor General's Office to raise charges.

Out of the 150,000 expatriates working in Maldives, 63,000 expatriates are working in the country illegally, according to statistics of Maldives Immigration.
