The UK have welcomed the constructive re-engagement of Maldives with the international community and steps taken, since the presidential election last year, to strengthen democracy, governance and rule of law.
During the 40th Session of United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), UK encouraged the Government of Maldives to seek support from Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and United Nations human rights mechanisms to build a democratic and tolerant society.
Moreover, UK reiterated its appreciation for OHCHR's work and encouraged all states to offer them their full support and cooperation.
