Government confers Rehendhi Awards 2019

The Government of Maldives has conferred Rehendhi Awards 2019 to 9 outstanding women. The awards were conferred at the official function held to mark International Womens' Day 2019.

Rehendhi Awards were conferred from four areas which includes Exceptional Institutional Service, Social Service, Non-Traditional Roles and Economic Service. The award-winners received their shields from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and their brooches from First Lady Fazna Ahmed.

The awards were received by Aminath Mohamed for Exceptional Institutional Service, Aishath Nazima for Social Service, Mariyam Shifzan for Non-Traditional Roles, Mumina Adam for Social Service, Aishath Luba for Social Service, Aminath Azka Adil for Non-Traditional Roles, Ameena Ali Kaleyfaanu for Economic Service, Aishath Shiruhana for Social Service and Nasreena Ali for Exceptional Institutional Service. Meanwhile, Society for Health Education (SHE) received Rehendhi Award from Employers Category.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Shidhatha Shareef said a policy must be formulated to represent women in parliament in regard to the population percentage. She said the history shows efforts were exerted to ensure women were given equal opportunities and to make sure the rights were protected. However, the gender minister said the rights are violated which needs to be stopped.
