President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed the administration will ensure women are given equal opportunities. The president made the remarks addressing the official ceremony held to mark International Womens' Day 2019.
During the ceremony in Mafushi in Kaafu Atoll, President Solih said time has passed with everyone talking about women empowerment and equal rights for women without any solid actions taken. However, the president expressed the administration will achieve the goals rather than talk about achieving the goals. Moreover, he revealed 20% of the loans from SME Bank will be allocated for women.
Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has granted license to establish bank for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). MMA said it has issued financing business license to SME Development Finance Corporation Private Limited. SME Development Finance Corporation Private Limited is a 100% state-owned company which comprises of 5% share for city councils of Male', Addu and Fuvahmulah.
