Investigations to be held to see if disproportionate use of power is used

Acting Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has assured internal investigations will be held to ensure if disproportionate use of power is used by the Maldives Police Service.

In a tweet, the acting commissioner of police revealed it has been a complaint of the public that powers exerted during situations are unnecessarily harsh compared to the situation. Hameed noted the issue has been going on for a long time without a proper solution. In this regard, he reiterated efforts will be initiated to ensure the issue will be solved within the institution.

Meanwhile, opposition coalition of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) criticised the police stating harsh security measures were used against protestors, following the admission of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
