PPM-PNC coalition calls for the release of Yameen

The coalition of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) held protests calling for the immediate release of detained former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

The PPM-PNC coalition took to the roads calling for the release of former President Yameen who is held in custody until end of his trial on allegations of money laundering.

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) brought Yameen to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for medical treatment. Yameen treated for heart disease. At the time Yameen was brought to IGMH, his supporters gathered at the area which ended in clashes between protestors and Maldives Police Service.

Meanwhile, later on Wednesday night, protestors in support of Yameen gathered on the streets of Male' City and called for his immediate release. Yameen is held in custody to influence the upcoming parliamentary election, according to the opposition parties.
