National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) has revealed Maldivians who fled to other countries to participate in civil wars are requesting to return back to the country.
Speaking at a press conference, Director General Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor stated about 61 local men have flown to participate in wars in foreign countries, some along with their families. Zakariyya Mansoor added some families have also sought to return back to Maldives. Noting such people left the country with their identities, Zakariyya Mansoor stated difficulties are faced in bringing them back due to invalid identification documents.
Moreover, the NCTC director general expressed efforts are underway to bring them back and conduct a rehabilitation process.
