Maldives Immigration has rounded up 80 illegal immigrants from Male' City.
The arrests were made as part of a special operation by Maldives Police Service to find illegal immigrants in the capital.
After screening the detainees, efforts will begin on deporting the illegal immigrants, according to Maldives Immigration. In addition, Maldives Immigration said if employers are found to have been negligent, strict action would be taken against them as well.
Maldives Immigration noted illegal immigrants gather at certain areas in the city and pose difficulties for people who reside in these areas and pedestrians. The authority also urged anyone with information on human trafficking or illegal immigrants to come forward.
