Defence Minister departs to India

Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed has departed to India on an official visit.

This week long trip is expected to see the defence minister hold discussions with her Indian counterpart on strengthening defence ties between the two countries. Indian media reports state discussions would focus on the establishment of an inter-coastal surveillance radar system. However, Maldivian authorities are yet to confirm these reports.

The defence minister is accompanied by Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal, Principal Director of the MNDF Coastguard Lieutenant Colonel Mohamed Saleem and Deputy Director of the Department of International Defence Corporation and Policy at the Ministry of Defence Colonel Abdul Matheen Ahmed.
