President assures the administration would not issue unlawful orders

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured he would not issue an unlawful command to the armed forces. The president made the statement addressing the Oath Taking Ceremony of the 64th Basic Training Programme of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

In his address, President Solih called upon the armed forces to be exemplary figures to the public in upholding the laws and regulations of the country. The president said the administration took office with the aim of upholding the rule of law and the administration will only issue commands to the armed forces that do not violate the constitution and the law. He also stated as per the code of ethics of MNDF, all personnel should have a single belief system and remain steadfast in the Islamic faith, put forward the country's welfare and assist in maintaining and following the rule of law in the country.

In his address, President Solih also stressed upon necessary reform from within the armed forces. He highlighted in order to increase the accountability of the armed forces, regulations and policies of the institution are being reviewed.

Moreover, President Solih shed light on the work carried out by the administration in further seeking training opportunities from friendly countries for the armed force personnel to ensure that they are trained, sharp and fit soldiers.
