Maldives to amend Civil Service Act

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula has stated the Civil Aviation Act will be fully reviewed and submitted to the Parliament.

Addressing the ceremony held to celebrate the International Civil Aviation Day, Transport Minister Aishath Nahula said the Civil Aviation Act, which was implemented 17 years ago, needs to be amended to enhance the security of aviation operations. In this regard, the transport minister revealed efforts are underway to amend the Civil Aviation Act, in addition to formulating a Passenger Right's Act.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive at Civil Aviation Authority Hussain Jaleel announced a special safety management audit will be conducted on all domestic airlines next year.

In 1996, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed that December 7 was to be the International Civil Aviation Day. The day has been celebrated by the International Civil Aviation Organisation since December 7, 1994, the 50th anniversary of the signing the Convention on International Civil Aviation.

The purpose of International Civil Aviation Day is to help generate and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation to the social and economic development of states and of the unique role of ICAO in helping States to cooperate and realise a truly global rapid transit network at the service of all mankind.
