Former President expresses interest to contest in parliamentary elections

Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has expressed interest to contest in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Speaking at a press conference held by Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), former President Yameen said he will soon make a decision on contesting in the parliamentary elections.

PPM has granted party tickets to 42 contestants without a primary, while Yameen said constituencies open for primaries will be announced soon.

While former President Yameen has not dismissed interest to compete for a parliament seat, former President Mohamed Nasheed has announced he would contest in the parliamentary elections and has begun his campaign. Meanwhile, former cabinet ministers have also announced they would compete in the elections scheduled to be held next March.
