State debt is at USD 3.7 billion: Finance Minister

Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer has revealed the state debt is at USD 3.7 billion.

Speaking at a press conference, Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer stated USD 1.9 billion are recorded as internal debt, while USD 1.8 billion is recorded as foreign debt. Moreover, the finance minister announced the previous administration have granted USD 1.4 billion as sovereign guarantee for 24 parties, further revealing the total dispersed amount is USD 666 million.

Furthermore, speaking at the press conference, Minister Ameer noted a large amount of money owed to government companies was not granted by the government within the past five years. Highlighting the previous government was very secretive about the state's public financing, Minister Ameer assured it will be changed in the coming days.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured the state's financial status will be published weekly by the finance ministry.
