MDP to contest for all 87 constituencies in parliamentary elections

National Council of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has passed to contest for all 87 constituencies in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The national council of the main party of the government coalition passed the proposal with the vote of 79 members of the 80 members present in the meeting.

The proposal to contest for all 87 constituencies was submitted by President of MDP Mohamed Nasheed which was seconded by Vice President of MDP Mohamed Shifaz. Most members who spoke during the council meeting spoke in favour of contesting for all the constituencies.

However, some members highlighted on allocating constituencies to the parties within the government coalition. The main determination is to maintain the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih rather than winning majority of seats in Parliament, according to MDP.
