MTD plans to contest in parliamentary elections

Maldives Thirdway Democrats (MTD) has revealed its candidates will contest in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

President of Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) Ismail Asif, who is working to form MTD, stated the aim is to have a firm foothold in the political arena and compete with the largest political parties in the country. In this regard, Asif revealed the first step in achieving the goal is competing in the parliamentary elections. Prior to the elections, importance will be given to filling membership forms and registering the party, according to Asif.

Furthermore, Asif said the party does not aim to work as an opposition, but rather work collectively prioritising sovereignty and peace of the country. However, Asif revealed the party would not stand back in voicing out against the government if it becomes irresponsible. On the same note, Asif assured to always cooperate with the government in the development of the country.

A few hours after the Elections Commission of Maldives granted permission to form MTD, former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb signed as its first member.
