PPM maintains majority party in parliament with 42 members

Statistics released by the Maldivian Parliament has shown that Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) is the majority party in the parliament, despite several parliamentarians leaving the ruling party. The registry of parliamentarians published shows that 37 out of the total 85 parlimentarians are from PPM.

With 5 members of Maldives Development Allliance (MDA), the total number of parliamentarians in the government coalition is 42. The numbers show that PPM-MDA coalition needs just one parliamentarian to attain the majority of the parliament.

Furthermore, there are 21 parliamentarians representing Maldives Democratic Party (MDP), while Jumhooree Party (JP) is represented by 7 parliamentarians and Adhaalath Party is represented by 1 parliamentarian. Currently, there are 2 independent parliamentarians in the parliament.
