Over 121,000 tourists visit the Maldives in August, which is an 8% increase compared to the same month of last year, according to the latest statistics of Ministry of Tourism.

49% of tourists who visited Maldives in August 2017 were from Asia and the Pacific countries. Most tourists from Asian countries to the Maldives were from China, India, Japan and South Korea. Arrivals to the Maldives from China in August saw a slight dip, but the country remained the top source market to the Maldives, with over 33,000 tourist arrivals from China.

The statistics by Tourism Ministry also showed that by the end of August this year 892,000 tourists visited the Maldives, which is a 6% increase compared to the same period of 2016. The Tourism Ministry attributed the increase in number of nights spent by tourists in Maldives to the increase in bed capacity.
