No travel restrictions to Qataris to enter and travel in Maldives

The government of Maldives has confirmed that there will be no travel restrictions to Qatari nationals to enter and travel in Maldives.

A tweet posted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured that there will be no restrictions to Qatari Nationals to enter the Maldives or travel out of the Maldives. Furthermore, the ministry stated that the decision to cut diplomatic relations will not impose any restrictions on People-to-People Contact with Qatari nationals.

Maldives cut diplomatic relations with Qatar on Tuesday accusing it of supporting terrorism and opening up the worst rift in years among some of the most powerful states in the Arab world. While a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs outlines action, it also reveals that this will not affect commercial and economic relations between the nations.

The Maldives joined six Arab countries in Monday's unprecedented move because of its firm opposition to activities that encourage terrorism and extremism, according to Foreign Ministry. Libya, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain on Monday cut ties to Qatar accused Qatar of destabilizing the region.

The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Qatar in 1984.
