China-Maldives relations have grown : Maldivian Ambassador

Maldivian Ambassador to China, Dr. Mohamed Faisal has said the foreign relations between China and Maldives have grown from strength to strength during the past three years.

During an interview with PSM News, Ambassador Faisal said that the state visits by the two leaders of China and the Maldives has cemented the overall relations between the countries. In September 2014, Xi Jinping, President and the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, visited Maldives, on invitation from President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Noting that this year marks the 45th anniversary since China and Maldives established diplomatic relations, Ambassador said that the relations between the countries have prospered in the past three years. He highlighted on various development projects initiated during the past three years, including the Laamu Atoll road development project, Velana International Airport development project and China-Maldives Friendship bridge project.

Diplomatic relations between Maldives and China were established in 1972.
