Foreign Secretary meets Japanese government & parliament leaders

Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed held bilateral talks with Mr. Tadahiko Ito, State Minister of Environment in Tokyo on Wednesday.

During the Meeting, the Foreign Secretary remarked on the assistance provided by the Japanese Government for the environment sector or Maldives, especially the Sea Wall project. Further they discussed ways to resolve the challenges of waste Management in the Maldives using the state of the Art technology of Japan.

Also on Wednesday, the Foreign Secretary met with Wataru Takeshita, President, and Yuko Obuchi, Secretary General of Japan-Maldives Parliamentary League in Tokyo.

While remarking the 50th Anniversary of bilateral relationship between Maldives and Japan, the Foreign Secretary expressed gratitude for the continued support extended by the league and discussed on ways to strengthen the existing bilateral relationship between both countries. Further they exchanged views to further enhance the fisheries industry of Maldives.

Dr. Naseer also met with Yosuke Watanabe, Director General of Social Infrastructure Finance Department at the Japan Banking in International Cooperation on Wednesday afternoon.

During the meeting, the Foreign Secretary and the Director-General exchanged views to collaborate in area of social housing development in the Maldives.  

The Foreign Secretary was accompanied at the meetings by Adam Hamid, Chargé D'affaires of the Embassy of Japan, Shazly Saleem, Second Secretary, and Mohamed Shujau, Desk Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He is making an official visit to Japan on an invitation extended by the Government of Japan in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Maldives- Japan diplomatic relations.
