A practical training programme on cucumber and melon cultivation in greenhouses has commenced at the Maldives Agricultural Project (MAP) greenhouse in Hanimaadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
The programme, aimed at farmers, has attracted a total of 22 participants from seven islands.
The Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources said the main objective of the programme is to enhance participants’ technical knowledge and practical skills in greenhouse farming. It is also expected to promote modern agricultural practices and contribute significantly to strengthening the Maldives’ sustainable food production system.
As part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to improve national food security and modernise the agricultural sector, practical training opportunities of this kind are considered particularly important for farmers.
The training will equip farmers with the skills needed to cultivate larger quantities of crops such as cucumbers and melons in greenhouses.
