Maldives to attend COP17 biodiversity conference

The Maldives will participate in the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17), scheduled to take place in Yerevan, Armenia, from 19 to 31 October 2026.

The Maldivian delegation will be led by Dr Ilham Atho Mohamed, Director of Environmental Conservation. Other members include Policy Communications Strategist Midhath Abdul Rasheed, Principal International Relations Officer Fathimath Usra, Protected Areas Management Analyst Aishath Amal and Conservation Analyst Hawwa Nabaha.

The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy said the delegation would focus on ensuring that the Maldives’ perspectives and key national priorities for protecting the environment and biodiversity are fully reflected in the decisions adopted at the conference.

The ministry described the conference as an important opportunity for vulnerable island nations such as the Maldives to raise their voices at the international level on protecting global biodiversity.
