Maldives Expo to feature dedicated district for international exhibitors

The Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade has confirmed that Maldives Expo 2026 will feature a dedicated district for international exhibitors, although the competition will remain exclusively open to Maldivians.

The expo will feature seven districts this year, including two new additions. The Visitor Economy District will cater to businesses operating in the Maldives' tourism sector, while the International District will provide a dedicated space for showcasing products from overseas.

Speaking on PSM News' Maldives Expo 2026 countdown show, State Minister for Economic Development, Transport and Trade Abdulla Shiyaz stated international companies had participated in last year's exhibition.

He explained that organisers had introduced a separate district for international exhibitors this year to strengthen Maldivian creativity, empower local creators and provide them with new opportunities.

State Minister Shiyaz highlighted the importance of encouraging Maldivians to develop new ideas and establish connections with international creators and businesses. He said the main objective was to build relationships between Maldivian and international creators, enabling local participants to access the support they need to further develop their creativity.

Describing the district as a bridge between local and international creators, the State Minister emphasised the importance of establishing connections that could support the growth of Maldivian creativity.

The International District will feature companies that play major roles in the Maldives' infrastructure development. Companies from neighbouring India, China and the United Arab Emirates will participate in the expo.

Despite their participation, State Minister Shiyaz clarified that international exhibitors would not be eligible to enter the competition, as organisers have reserved it exclusively for Maldivians.

He further noted that the International District would primarily showcase new technological innovations, which could help advance the Maldives' digital and technology sectors.
