The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Maldives and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia have signed an Agreement on Cooperation aimed at strengthening legal cooperation between the two offices.
Prosecutor General Abbas and a delegation from the Prosecutor General’s Office are in Kazan, Russia, to attend the 24th Meeting of Prosecutors General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Member States.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Prosecutor General Abbas met Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Aleksandr Gutsan and held official discussions. Following the discussions, the two offices signed the Agreement on Cooperation to strengthen cooperation between them.
Under the agreement, the two offices will establish a framework for professional research and training and for sharing professional experience and knowledge. The agreement also provides for cooperation and assistance in areas mutually agreed upon by the two offices.
During the official discussions, Prosecutor General Abbas shared information on the PGO 2.0 initiative, which aims to increase the efficiency of the Prosecutor General’s Office by more than 60 per cent.
He said that although the system is designed to expedite work, its fundamental principle is to keep decision-making authority in the hands of people. Prosecutor General Abbas also thanked Prosecutor General Aleksandr Gutsan for his generous hospitality and expressed hope that relations between the two offices would continue to strengthen.
In a separate post, Prosecutor General Abbas described the opportunity to meet Prosecutor General Aleksandr Gutsan in Kazan and sign an agreement to strengthen legal ties between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Maldives and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia as an honour.
He said the agreement would strengthen legal cooperation between the two offices in efforts to combat cross-border crime and pave the way for cooperation in additional areas.
