Work has begun on installing street-level advisory boards across the islands of Kaafu Atoll under a nationwide project announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to place religious guidance signage on every inhabited island across the country. The government initiative, designed to span a full year, targets all populated islands nationwide.
The national campaign to install boards promoting religious awareness and noble moral habits was launched to coincide with the 900th anniversary of the Maldives’ conversion to Islam. Installations commenced first in Kaafu Atoll under the initial phase, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments stated. Signage has already been dispatched to every island across the atoll, ministry officials noted, with shipments scheduled for distribution to remaining atolls in the coming days.
Placements are slated for high-visibility locations, encompassing major thoroughfares and public gathering spaces in all inhabited islands, according to the ministry. The displays will feature publicly visible supplications and ethical exhortations, with refreshing the public memory of virtuous deeds and encouraging civic morality serving as the principal objectives driving the project.
Funding for the nationwide endeavour is structured through a combination of state budgetary allocations, contributions from private citizens, and support from civil society organisations. Efforts to cultivate religious devotion among Maldivians are being pursued through multiple avenues under President Muizzu, building on similar signage installed across Malé during the president’s prior tenure as Malé City mayor.
