Direct flights between Maldives and Bulgaria will begin in November

Bulgarian airline GullivAir is to provide direct flights between the Maldives and Bulgaria starting in November.

GullivAir is an airline that is registered and operated in the in the capital of Sofia, Bulgaria. Services from the airline are set to begin on November 6th. The flights are to be scheduled till the 26th of March in 2027. Gullivair stated that these flights are travelling during the winter season in Europe. They stated that this is the first time the Maldives and Bulgaria had schedules for direct flights between the two countries.

Flights are scheduled on the weekends, with flights from Male’ to the Bulgarian capital Sofia scheduled every Friday and flights from Sofia to Male’ scheduled every Saturday The flights are scheduled to create ease for travelers flying both for business and for leisure.

For the scheduled flights, GullivAir would be using wide-body boat aircrafts and A330-200 Aircrafts. The Airline has stated that for every flight, passengers would get two on board meals.

Airlines tend to increase flights to the Maldives as the winter season draws closer. Work is underway to bring flights from more airlines. Recently flights from Qatar Airlines have increased from 12 to 21 flights per week. Preparations for flights from Belarusian Airlines Belavia to begin in December have also started.

The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation has stated that despite fewer tourists visiting the Maldives due to the conflict in the Middle East, the ministry believes that they can still achieve their tourism goal. The Government aimed of bringing 2.3 million tourists to the Maldives this year. So far this year 1.49 million tourists have visited the Maldives according to statistics released by the Tourism ministry.
