President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has described Islam as the main reason for the country’s victories, achievements and prosperity over the past 900 years.
He made the statement in a social media post published on the occasion of the day the Maldives embraced Islam.
In his message, the President thanked Almighty Allah for guiding the Maldives towards Islam. He said Islam had become the strongest pillar of the country’s national identity and that the Maldivian people continues to follow Islamic culture and principles generation after generation.
The President further said the people had fought against those who threatened Islam and the country’s freedom over the last nine centuries. He described Islam as the country’s salvation in the past, present and future.
Concluding his message, the President congratulated the people on the occasion and prayed for their continued faith, and security and prosperity rooted in Islam.
The Maldives celebrates 2 Rabee’ul Akhir every year as the day the Maldives embraced Islam.
