President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said the Maldives will always attach importance to its longstanding close ties with Pakistan.
The President made the remarks in a social media post shared to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day.
President Muizzu extended Independence Day greetings to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and the people of Pakistan.
He said the longstanding close, friendly and mutually supportive relationship between the Maldives and Pakistan has always been important to the Maldives. He also expressed hope that the strong ties between the two countries would continue to grow stronger in the future, bringing greater prosperity and benefits to the people of both countries.
Pakistan’s Independence Day is celebrated annually on 14 August. The day marks the end of British rule in the region that then comprised India and Pakistan and the declaration of Pakistan as an independent state.
This year marks Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.
