The Parliament has unanimously endorsed President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's nomination of Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed as the Maldives’ ambassador to the European Union and Belgium.
The President forwarded the nomination on 7 July, and the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, after a thorough review, deemed Dhiyana capable and qualified for the post.
The committee’s report, presented to the floor, garnered 52 votes in favor, sealing her appointment.
Dhiyana brings a distinguished resume, having served as Attorney General under former President Mohamed Nasheed and as Gender Minister in the administration of former President Mohamed Waheed.
She currently holds the title of Ambassador‑at‑Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a role she assumed last April.
In the same session, the Parliament also approved Ahmed Sareer’s dual appointment, retaining his post as ambassador to Saudi Arabia while adding the non‑resident ambassadorship to Bahrain, a measure passed unanimously by 53 members.
