President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has issued a decree removing Savaaheli from the administrative jurisdiction of Addu City as part of the government's efforts to facilitate tourism development.
The change was made through Decree No. 13/2026, issued under Section 56-1(a) of the Decentralisation Act (Act No. 7/2010), which grants the President the authority to determine and designate the jurisdictions of City and Island Councils.
According to the President's Office, the amendment excludes Savaaheli from Addu City's administrative area, revising the city's official jurisdiction.
A new chart showing the updated administrative boundaries of Addu City has been published in the Government Gazette following the issuance of the decree.
The government said the administrative change was made to support tourism development in the area.
