The Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development Dr Ismail Shafeeu announced the rollout of a three‑year “Digital for All” initiative aimed at equipping every Maldivian citizen with the digital knowledge and skills required to transform the archipelago into a developed nation by 2040.
Speaking at the campaign’s launch, the Minister emphasised that the effort aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s vision of “Maldives 2.0,” a strategy to turn the country into a fully digital, high‑income society.
“A person changes by changing his training, thinking and understanding,” he said, adding that the programme will produce a populace that is not only digitally savvy but also proud to stand on par with any developed nation worldwide.
The initiative will partner universities, colleges, local councils, the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA), MINDCo, the Maldives National Skill Development Authority and the National Institute of Education to create a nationwide digital literacy network. By integrating digital systems into all educational and vocational institutions, the government hopes to remove barriers for people with physical or mental disabilities and expand opportunities for remote work and inclusive societal participation, he added.
Minister Ismail Shafeeu reiterated that building a digitally competent generation is a national responsibility that can only be achieved through coordinated action across ministries, agencies and private partners.
