UK plays a key role in Maldives’ socio-economic progress: President Muizzu

The United Kingdom plays a significant role in the socio-economic development of the Maldives, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said.

In a letter congratulating Andrew Burnham on assuming office as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), the President extended wishes for his success in his new role. He reaffirmed the deep value the Maldivian government places on the long-standing historic ties of friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and the UK, describing the relationship as one built on shared principles of upholding democratic values, defending human rights and promoting people-to-people connections.

The President also conveyed sincere appreciation for the significant contributions the UK has made to the socio-economic development of the Maldives over the years.

President Muizzu further expressed his eagerness to work closely with Prime Minister Burnham to strengthen the enduring partnership between the two countries, and conveyed his hope to meet the Prime Minister in the near future to explore avenues of collaboration for the mutual benefit of the people of both nations.

Concluding his letter, the President extended his personal best wishes to Prime Minister Burnham for his good health and wellbeing, and for the continued peace and progress for the people of the UK.
