Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed met with officers from the Traffic Police and Road Management Department and officially launched the Traffic Enhancement Plan.
The launch ceremony was held at Iskandhar Koshi and was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikury, along with command officers from the various functions of the Traffic and Road Management Department. According to the Maldives Police Service (MPS), the plan sets out the operational approach for officers carrying out traffic duties in Male' and along the Sinamale' Bridge highway.
During the meeting, the Commissioner of Police stressed the importance of strengthening ongoing efforts to improve road safety and to find long-term solutions to traffic congestion. He noted that the number of officers deployed for traffic operations has already been increased and called for a stronger police presence in Malé’s busiest commercial areas, with particular emphasis on reducing the inconvenience experienced by the public.
In line with the Commissioner’s directive, the Traffic and Road Management Department confirmed that police officers will now be deployed to additional areas across Male', beyond the locations currently being monitored, in order to minimise disruption for the public.
The department also highlighted that work is underway to further expand traffic policing by increasing the number of personnel assigned to traffic and road management duties in the future.
